Mixing Pain Killers with Alcohol. We hear headlines everyday that a record number of people are being admitted to Emergency Rooms nationwide due to prescription drug overdoses. What you don’t hear is that a high number of overdoses are actually from people mixing pain killers or Xanax with Alcohol. Opiates and Benzodiazepines already depress the respiratory system then you throw alcohol into the mix and now you have a recipe for disaster. This not only happens to Alcoholics and Addicts but also those who may be taking pain medication for chronic pain or may have recently have a medical procedure performed and do not understand that they need to follow warnings that are posted on their prescription bottle.
