Jeremy K. Stanton
Founder | Executive Director
Jeremy Stanton founded Haven House in 2004, after realizing there was a void in the crucial period between inpatient treatment and the return to everyday life. Drawing from his own personal experience, Jeremy built a series of luxury sober living homes that provided the necessary fellowship and structure that had been vital in his own recovery. After working with thousands of residents and their families, he started Haven House Treatment Services, providing relief through comprehensive clinical services for those suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Maxine Marks, LMFT
Clinical Program Director
Maxine has been a highly regarded clinician in the field of addiction for over a decade. Having specialized in the treatment of addictive and compulsive disorders, Maxine has worked in some of the most well-known addiction treatment centers in Los Angeles. While working with both the dual diagnosis community as well as with those reentering society after decades of incarceration, she quickly earned her reputation as a fierce client advocate. Maxine comes to our program with extensive experience in child development, relationships, a passion for interpersonal neurobiology, and the healing of trauma. She is a California State Certified-Child Sexual Assault Advocate, and gives care and voice to silenced victims. Maxine is certified by the California Council of Problem Gambling/UCLA to provide treatment for pathological gamblers and their families. She is also a trained and experienced EMDR therapist. Her hard-earned insight and empathy provide a tremendous sense of hope and comfort to our clients.
Mark Honzel MD
Medical Director
Dr Mark Honzel graduated Alpha Omega Alpha from the University of Iowa medical school and went on to complete residencies in Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, and Intensive Care Medicine from Columbia University in New York City.
Dr Honzel has been practicing Addiction Medicine and HIV Medicine for the past 25 years and its currently the co-medical director of the Miracles 18 bed acute detoxification unit at Southern California Hospital in Culver City, California. He subsequently became Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine. He Previously co-owned 7 addiction treatment facilities along the west coast of the United States. He currently serves as the addictionologist and Medical Director for 2 centers in the Los Angeles area including Haven House, Friendly House, inc. He also has a busy office practice in Addiction Medicine, HIV Medicine, and Pain Management in Beverly Hills, CA.
Dr. Honzel joined Harry Nelson’s team 3 years ago as Chief Medical Officer at the American Addiction Treatment Association (AATA), a health care consulting firm for addiction and other medical facilities across the United States.
He evaluates nurses for substance use disorders for the California Nursing Board. He has worked toward the reinstatement of a Diversion Program for physician’s in California.
Having previously served on the boards of West Hollywood Drug and Alcohol Recovery Center and of Friendly House, Dr Honzel is now proud to serve on the board as the co-Medical Adviser for the Alliance for Housing and Healing, whose principal goal is to find essential housing and emergency assistance programs to low income persons living with HIV/AIDS and the addiction in Los Angeles County.
On a personal note, Dr. Honzel has been in recovery since 1993.
Eric Chaghouri MD
Psychiatrist
Dr. Eric Chaghouri is a 2007 graduate from the University of California, Los Angeles, where he earned his B. A. in Biology with Summa Cum Laude honors. While at UCLA, he helped the men’s varsity volleyball team earn a National Championship in 2006. He was named the UCLA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2007.
He earned his medical degree from the Keck School of Medicine in 2011. He completed his internship training in 2008 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and the remaining three years of residency in general adult psychiatry at the Los Angeles County and University of Southern California Medical Center. He served as the Chief Resident in psychiatric emergency services during his fourth year of residency. He also served as Resident Clinical Instructor and Volunteer Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the Keck School of Medicine.
After completing residency, Dr. Chaghouri accepted a fellowship position in forensic psychiatry at the prestigious USC Institute of Psychiatry and Law. His scholarly activities included publishing in Legal Digest and presenting research findings at the Keck School of Medicine annual conference.
Since completing his forensic psychiatry fellowship, he has established a successful and thriving practice in West Hollywood and Century City, California, focusing on treatment of dual diagnosis psychiatric disorders. He works in an array of capacities with attorneys, courts, and other parties in actual or potential litigation. He also has extensive experience consulting and providing opinions on psychiatric issues for major television networks. Dr. Chaghouri’s interests include addiction medicine, substance use disorders, forensic psychiatry, medical ethics, psychological autopsy, gender wellness, and evidence-based treatment of psychiatric conditions.

Julia Gindi, affectionately known around Haven House as “Wonder Woman” is a California State Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Certified Addiction Specialist. With more than 12 years of experience in the field of addiction, Julia has worked in every facet of addiction treatment from detox to long-term sober living. Julia’s specialties range from building strong healthy boundaries, family dynamics, conflict resolution, coping with emotions, building self-esteem and coping skills for a happy balanced life. Julia’s passion is helping clients and their families heal and rebuild their lives. Caring and compassionate, Julia has successfully treated over 1,000 people dependent on drugs and alcohol by offering guidance, encouragement, strength and wisdom.

Myrto Lussier, CHT
Group Facilitator
Myrto is a certified hypnotherapist, motivational life coach, addiction counselor, and teacher. Hypnotherapy is very useful for addicts in early recovery who find it hard to relax, let go of anxiety, and quiet the mind. Myrto uses drug counselling skills together with hypnotherapy and mindfulness techniques, specifically created to change the triggers in the brain, arrest self-sabotage patterns, release trauma, and redirect the brain’s neural networks. Techniques that are proven to help relapse prevention.
Sabrina Buchanek, ICADC

Sabrina is an internationally certified alcohol and drug counselor with extensive experience working with individuals and groups in accredited treatment facilities. She is certified in Gestalt therapy and integrative psychology. Sabrina’s passion is serving others through deep transformative coaching. By integrating Gestalt therapy, mindfulness, and other powerful change technologies, she helps her clients move beyond learned limitations into new possibilities. In addition, Sabrina is licensed as a non-denominational spiritual practitioner by Centers for Spiritual Living and Agape International Spiritual Center. She is committed to helping others create greater freedom in their lives.
Roger Andes, M.A.
Group Facilitator
Roger holds B.A. and M.A. degrees in psychology, and he has been helping his clients experience the transformative power of self-compassion and self-acceptance for over forty years. Since 1985 he has worked primarily with clients suffering from addictions, helping them discover the best in themselves, and create the sober, meaningful lives they truly want to live. Roger draws on decades of experience and training in humanistic psychology, including Gestalt therapy, mindfulness, Self-esteem training, and Reichian bodywork. Roger is a certified teacher (1975) of Reichian bodywork, which teaches clients how to connect more deeply to their emotions and heal emotional wounds.

In her role as an RRCA certified running coach at a residential addiction treatment center, Leslie has helped hundreds of people in early recovery cross the finish line of the Los Angeles Marathon. Inspired by the many participants who described the experience as life changing and critical to their long-term sobriety, Leslie started Strides in Recovery to bring similar benefits to more recovery communities.
Hans Kohler
Group Facilitator
Hans Kohler holds a M.S. in Negotiation and Conflict Resolution from Columbia University, where he specialized in Interpersonal Relationships and how to use Effective Communication and Emotional Intelligence to prevent unhealthy conflicts. Hans is a Conflict Resolution Specialist, Ombudsman, Facilitator, and Mediator. Hans has worked in multiple areas from International Organizations to the LA Superior Court to Recovery, as well as teaching Conflict Resolution to companies, students, people, and families. Hans is originally from Brazil and speaks six languages, as well as he has lived in five different countries hence becoming more culturally aware of differences and commonalities.
Brian Jacobs, MA
Counseling Psychology, Pranayama Breathwork Facilitator
Brian has a unique understanding and way of working with people of all ages. He is a very compassionate, kind and empathetic person and these qualities lie at the core of his work. He combines a blending of traditional Psychology, with his passion Pranayama Breath Work. His work is geared towards assisting people to experience the interwoven connection that exists in, body, mind and spirit. He received his Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from LMU, where he developed his fundamental foundation of studying various perspectives, theories and practices in the field of psychology. He spent several years training at The Maple Center working with children, adolescents, and adults. In addition, Brian spent some time volunteering at The Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA where he worked with kids who had Schizophrenia in a physical therapy milieu. He spent several years volunteering at Vista Del Mar, where he counseled adolescents at the highschool. He recently completed his educational requirements for his CADAC at LMU and is now working on obtaining the required hours for licensure. Brian is currently facilitating Breath Work groups in the field of Alcohol and Drug recovery. He is also leading adolescent and young adult groups in mental health facilities, and in meditation centers. Finally, Brian also works in private practice.

Iris is a certified executive and career coach with 20 years’ experience helping people successfully navigate the changes they are experiencing in work and in life. She draws from her degree in secondary education as well as a long career in corporate life, in a wide variety of businesses ranging from global companies to local start-ups. Iris is especially passionate about guiding people in recovery through the personal and professional challenges of career transition. She does this by helping them connect their personal and life values with their hopes and intentions for the future, and developing the skills needed to build a successful path for returning to school or the workplace. Her coaching helps people develop a mindset and tools for continued learning and growth to serve them well into the future.
Rene Collins
Certified Qi Gong Instructor
Rene Collins teaches Qi Gong, meditation practices, and spiritual development work to empower his clients! Rene hails from the San Francisco Bay Area, where he began his education in the performing arts and spiritual development. His background in the performing arts includes martial arts, circus acrobats, acting, and music. His spiritual background includes Kabbalah, Taoism, Kemetic spirituality, Zen, Qi Gong and meditation. Rene has an array of inner tools he uses to teach and inspire clients. He is an expert when it comes to helping someone activate their Qi (Life Force energy) and access their own role in their healing process! Rene uses Qi Gong combined with mindfulness meditations to help the clients activate their Prefrontal Cortex. The part of the brain responsible for self control and focus. Rene Collins is enjoying life in Los Angeles, bringing the tools of Qi Gong, meditation, and spiritual development to those in recovery. He is grateful to be a part of what he truly feels is God’s work, assisting clients in recovering their strength and restoring their ability to heal!

Yulia is a Nationally Certified Personal Trainer and Group Instructor and has been teaching Yoga for over 20 years. Yulia teaches all forms of exercise privately and to groups including Yoga, Mat Pilates, and Resistance Training. Yulia uses guided meditation and hypnotherapy techniques to guide her clients to connect with themselves, focus on breath, and feel good. Yulia brings to Haven House a unique perspective on wholeness and wellness helping clients to reconnect with, and invest in their bodies after years of neglect.

After being a certified nursing assistant for six years in various health care settings, Alycia Crane decided to change careers and joined the family at Haven House Addiction Treatment as a residential technician. In December of 2017, she was promoted to Medical Technician, based on her background in and knowledge of the medical field. She assists every client that comes through Haven House by working with the medical and clinical teams.

Ryan Russ had been practicing yoga for over 10 years and after experiencing the benefits of the asanas and breathing techniques, felt compelled to share his knowledge with others. He has received his credentials from the Sivananda Yoga Ashram which is overseen by Swami Brahmananda with a direct lineage to Swami Sivananda, the founder of this practice. Sivananda Yoga is a holistic approach to Hatha Yoga which includes the five branches of yoga philosophy: proper exercise, relaxation, breathing, meditation and diet.
