The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) list substance use disorder, also known as addiction, as a chronic mental health illness. Developing an addiction is not instantaneous, nor is the recovery process. With addiction an individual develops unhealthy habits and harmful patterns surrounding substance-abusing behaviors that must be shed. An individual that struggles with addiction will prioritize satisfying his or her drugs cravings above all else, without regard for consequence. This can have adverse effects in all areas of one’s life (e.g. financial strain, relationship fractures, legal complications, etc.). It is not uncommon for an individual seeking substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment to have exhausted his or her finances, as supporting an addiction can be incredibly costly. It is imperative to select a rehab program that is able to accommodate one’s needs, and it is of equal importance that the individual is able to fulfill the financial obligation related to participating in the program, whatever it may be. If certain options are cost-prohibitive, select an option that is financially feasible. Fortunately, there are some rehab program options that require no financial contribution from its participants.
Addiction Treatment Options
The recovery process from addiction will require long-term and steadfast commitment. Every individual is unique and will require a tailored treatment plan when it comes to recovering from substance abuse and/ or addiction. There are a variety of different options available to those in need. Prior to attending rehab, individuals in treatment for substance abuse and/ or addiction must have first completed detox. Detox is the process that rids one’s body of all foreign substances. After detox, many individuals struggling with substance abuse and/ or addiction elect to attend some type of formal substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment program. Each rehab program is distinct. There are traditional rehab programs and specialized substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment programs (e.g. dual diagnosis treatment, long-term treatment, etc.) so as to assure every individual in need is able to obtain a form of treatment that specifically accommodates his or her nuanced needs.
Cost of Rehab
The cost of substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment programs is wide-ranging. Depending on the type of substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment program, some are more costly than others (e.g. inpatient treatment programs often come with a larger price-tag than outpatient treatment programs). The way rehab programs are priced is entirely left to discretion of the each program.
In order to provide services to more individuals some substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment programs will offer a sliding scale regarding cost. Further, though the cost of operating a legitimate substance abuse and/ or addiction treatment program will not be free, there are programs that offer its services free-of-charge to its participants.
