A big issue for Alcoholics and Addicts that are newly sober is finding employment. Today’s job market looks dramatically different compared to what it looked like just eight years ago. However, don’t let that get in your way in moving forward. Many urban areas now have non-profit organizations that help people who are newly sober find employment. Some of the services offered by these organizations include resume writing, interview workshops, and how to overcome barriers to employment. Remember getting sober was a process, and this also applies to finding a job. Don’t let things like criminal convictions get in your way. Just be honest when you fill out an application as there are many employers today willing to hire people that may have a conviction on their record. You will find out that being employed and financially responsible for empowering experience in your recovery.
