There are many women who suffer from addiction today and maybe carrying something that can be more deadly than just the substance they are abusing. Emotional Trauma for many women can be caused by rape, sexual abuse, loss of a child or other physical abuse and emotional abuse. Often these women resort to the abuse of substances or alcohol simply as a coping mechanism to deal with the symptoms brought on by sexual abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Often you may be shocked to find that some of these women also put themselves in situations that traumatized them in the first place. The general public still doesn’t have an understanding of the inner workings of emotional trauma and may guilt or shame these women who have no idea that they are suffering from a mental disorder. Today there are many resources available who are victims of Domestic Violence, rape or physical abuse. We have to look at these women as a sick person needing help and not just as an addict behaving badly.
